چکیده

Supercritical CO2 extraction of carotenoids from tomato industrial wastes (mixture of skins and seeds) was carried out in a flow apparatus at the temperature of 60 oC and the pressure of 300 bar. The effect of the moisture content (4.6, 23 and 58%), particle size (0.15, 0.35 and 0.72 mm) and solvent flow-rate was studied. The carotenoids recovery (mass of extracted compounds by supercritical CO2/mass of extracted compounds by Soxhlet) at 60 oC and 300 bar for samples with 4.6 % moisture was higher for the lowest tomato particle size and decreased with the increase of the flow-rate. Extraction of tomato paste wastes with organic solvents showed that the carotenoids concentration in the tomato paste was similar in the fresh tomato wastes (83% of moisture content) and in the samples dried up to a moisture content of 58% and 23%, but decreased to half of the value when samples were dried up to a moisture content of 4.6%. Supercritical CO2 extraction of carotenoids at 60 oC and 300 bar showed that the increase in the moisture content of the samples, from 4.6% to 23%, led to an increase in the yield (mass of extract/mass dry matter) of the extraction and to a decrease in the recovery of the carotenoids. For higher moisture degrees (58%), both the yield and the recovery decreased.

Supercritical extraction of lycopene from tomato industrial wastes with ethane.

Supercritical fluid extraction of all-E-lycopene from tomato industrial wastes (mixture of skins and seeds) was carried out in a semi-continuous flow apparatus using ethane as supercritical solvent. The effect of pressure, temperature, feed particle size, solvent superficial velocity and matrix initial composition was evaluated. Moreover, the yield of the extraction was compared with that obtai...

A Simplified Method to Estimate Sc-CO2 Extraction of Bioactive Compounds from Different Matrices: Chili Pepper vs. Tomato By-Products

In the last few decades, the search for bioactive compounds or “target molecules” from natural sources or their by-products has become the most important application of the supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) process. In this context, the present research had two main objectives: (i) to verify the effectiveness of a two-step SFE process (namely, a preliminary Sc-CO2 extraction of carotenoids f...

Carotenoids, Fatty Acid Composition and Heat Stability of Supercritical Carbon Dioxide-Extracted-Oleoresins

The risk of chronic diseases has been shown to be inversely related to tomato intake and the lycopene levels in serum and tissue. Cis-isomers represent approximately 50%-80% of serum lycopene, while dietary lycopene maintains the isomeric ratio present in the plant sources with about 95% of all-trans-lycopene. Supercritical CO(2) extraction (S-CO(2)) has been extensively developed to extract ly...

Biorefinery cascade processing for creating added value on tomato industrial by-products from Tunisia

BACKGROUND In today's consumer perception of industrial processes and food production, aspects like food quality, human health, environmental safety, and energy security have become the keywords. Therefore, much effort has been extended toward adding value to biowastes of agri-food industries through biorefinery processing approaches. This study focused, for the first time, on the valorization ...

Effect of Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Condition on Extraction of Carotenoids and Seed Oil from Rosehip Fruits

Temperature and pressure effects of supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2) on the extraction of carotenoids and seed oil from rosehip fruits have been studied. Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) has shown much potential skills for the isolation of organic compounds from various samples. SFE minimizes sample handling, provides fairly clean extracts, expedites sample preparation and reduces the u...
